Structured story bible

A place to keep
what you're making.

Scenes, characters, worldbuilding, foreshadowing, plot threads. Everything you decide while building a story, kept in one fixed shape — and connected to Claude, ChatGPT or Claude Code over MCP, so your AI reads and writes it directly instead of being told again every session.

A StoryCanon account is required. Sign in with Google.

Settings get buried.

StoryCanon is for the kind of writing where there is simply too much to remember — long-form fiction, a series, a campaign scenario, a world you keep adding to.

Who it's for

Writing long-form or a series

The further you go, the more you have already decided.

Writing alongside ChatGPT

The conversation moves on. What you settled should not move with it.

Building scenarios and worlds

TTRPGs, games, pitches — a lot gets decided before a word is written.

Sound familiar?

Which conversation did I decide that in?
Decisions stay attached to the project, so you never scroll back through a chat history to find them.
I planted that foreshadowing and then forgot it.
Unresolved foreshadowing stays on a list until its status actually changes.
This character's voice drifts between chapters.
Everything about a person sits in one place, ready to check before you write them again.
I came back after a month and lost the thread.
The latest story state is waiting for you, and so is the place you stopped reading.
I paste the same setting into the AI every single time.
The project's context goes over in one piece, so there is nothing left to paste.

The structure is already decided.

You don't pick a template and fill in the blanks. Every project has the same shape, so a character always has a goal, a secret and a current state — and nothing important ends up in a field you forgot to add.

What every project holds

  • Scenes

Body text, summary, what happened, and the order they're read in.

  • Chapters

Title, order, summary and purpose, with scenes assigned to them.

  • Characters

Role, age, personality, speech style, appearance, background.

  • Character notes

Categorised as inner life, relationships, background, speech or plot.

  • World notes

Places, organizations, technology, history, culture, items and rules.

  • Plot threads

What is running, where it stands, and what would resolve it.

  • Foreshadowing

Where it was planted, how it's meant to pay off, whether it has.

  • Mysteries

The question, the truth, who knows it, the clues, the reveal point.

  • Revision TODOs

The problem, a suggested fix, a priority, and who raised it.

  • Story state

An append-only history of where the story stood at each point.

  • Timeline

In-story events in order, tagged, with the characters each one involves.

  • Project settings

Genre, premise, tone, audience, style, and elements to avoid.

  • Reading position

Where you stopped reading, per project.

Fields that are always there

Every character
Goal, secret and current state are first-class fields, not something you remember to write down.
Every mystery
Question, truth, who already knows, the clues laid so far, and where it is meant to be revealed.
Every state snapshot
Ten fields, including unresolved problems, active plot threads, next options and elements to avoid.

There is no template picker, because there is nothing to pick. One opinionated schema, applied to every project.

Designed for AI to read and write.

StoryCanon does not generate text itself. It is the place your AI writes into — so the story it helps you build is still there tomorrow, and still yours to change your mind about.

01

Connect your AI once

A few steps in Settings and your assistant can read and write your project directly. No plugin, no browser extension, nothing to install.

02

Stop pasting your setting in every time

Your premise, the latest story state, the cast, the open plot threads and the unresolved foreshadowing all go over together — so the AI starts every session already knowing where the story is.

03

If it went the wrong way, just say so

When the AI takes the story somewhere you didn't want, telling it to undo that is enough to put things back. You don't have to remember what it touched or repair anything by hand — and nothing is really deleted along the way.

04

You can always tell who wrote what

Scenes and revision TODOs remember whether they came from you or from an assistant, so a draft you meant to rewrite never quietly becomes canon.

What that looks like

  1. You

I want to go deeper on Goda, without contradicting anything already decided about him.

  2. AI

Reading his profile and the notes filed against him.

    get_character
  3. AI

He keeps what he knows separate from what he can say, speaks in flat endings, and never uses Akari's name. The one thing not written down is why he stays silent — and it has to square with his cutting the pier lights that night.

  4. You

That's the gap. Work it out and write it down.

  5. AI

Added two character notes: the reason for his silence, and how he keeps his distance from Akari.

    save_character_note
  6. AI

His current state is updated too, so the next session starts from this and not from scratch.

    save_character

Nothing was pasted in. The context came from the work itself, and the result went back into it.

Connect over MCP

StoryCanon runs a Model Context Protocol server, so it fits the tool you already use. Any MCP client can point at a single endpoint and work with your project — one URL and a sign-in, with nothing to install on either side.

  • Claude

Add StoryCanon as a connector and approve it in the browser — the URL alone is enough, with no token to copy anywhere. Claude Code connects with a single `claude mcp add` command, carrying an API token from your Settings page.

  • ChatGPT

Turn on developer mode and add StoryCanon as a custom app: the URL alone is enough, and OAuth handles the rest. A Custom GPT can also reach it through Actions and the published OpenAPI schema.

  • Ollama

Prefer to keep the model on your own machine? Use an MCP client that runs against Ollama and it reaches the same endpoint, so your text goes to a model you host rather than to a hosted service.

Anything else that speaks MCP works the same way. The endpoint and the connection steps — plus an API token, for the clients that need one — are all on the Settings page once you sign in.

Just as useful without any AI.

Everything an AI could write here, you can write yourself. Using StoryCanon purely to keep a scenario and its worldbuilding straight is a first-class way to use it.

Edit everything in the browser

Every entity has an ordinary form, with inline editing on the pages you are already reading.

A reader that remembers where you stopped

Read your manuscript without the editing interface. Your scroll position is saved as you go and restored per project.

Find the setting you wrote three months ago

World notes and character notes carry a category and an importance, and stay attached to the scene they came from.

Take your work with you

Export the manuscript and everything around it as Markdown or plain text on any plan, or as structured JSON on a paid one.

Plans that follow your pace.

Questions people ask first.

If something here is still unclear, the contact form goes straight to the developer.

What is MCP, and do I need it?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI client talk to an outside service. StoryCanon runs an MCP server, so Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and others can read and write your work directly instead of you pasting settings into a chat. You do not need it — everything is editable in the browser — but it is what makes the AI stop forgetting.
Is it usable without any AI?
Yes, and that is a supported way to use it rather than a fallback. Every entity has an ordinary form with inline editing, plus a reader that remembers where you stopped. Using StoryCanon purely to keep a scenario and its worldbuilding straight is a first-class use.
How hard is it to connect?
For clients that support OAuth, such as connectors in Claude, you paste one URL and approve the connection in the browser — there is no token to copy. Claude Code takes a single command, and the Settings page prints it with your URL and token already filled in.
Does StoryCanon write the prose?
No. StoryCanon does not generate text. It is the place your AI writes into, and it records which side wrote each scene so you can always tell them apart.
Can I get my writing back out?
Yes. Markdown and plain text export are on every plan, including Free. JSON export needs a paid plan.
What do I get for free?
Three works, eight characters and 20,000 characters of body text per work, plus the world notes, foreshadowing, mysteries, plot threads and revision TODOs that go with them.
Is my writing private?
Works are private to your account. An AI reaches them only through a connection you approved yourself, and you can revoke any connected app or token from Settings at any time.

Still being built, on purpose.

StoryCanon is developed and run by one person. That shapes what you can expect from it.

Feedback reaches the person writing the code
There is no support tier between you and development. What gets built next is decided largely by what people ask for.
Improvements ship as they are ready
Changes land when they are finished rather than being held for a scheduled release.
Your work stays exportable
Markdown and plain text export are on every plan, including the free one. If StoryCanon stops being the right tool, you can leave with everything you wrote.
What isn't ready is labelled as such
Unfinished features are marked, not implied. Anything still in progress says so plainly, and only stops saying so once it actually works.
